OCTOBER 5TH IS FILMSTACK DAY IN L.A.
Punk Rock Movie Party & Epic NonDē Meetup
Filmstack is my Ghost Orchid.
I’d always heard of this mythical “online community.” This hub of likeminded individuals that would see and hear me in a way I’d never been watched or listened to before. I see Filmstack blooming quickly. I see her roots far reaching coast to coast. I also see her bear fruit outside of cyberspace. We’re all so trapped in the cloud, it’s gorgeous to see it rain down to Earth. We’re meeting each other. The online community is becoming IRL and a visible scene grows in real time before my eyes. Thank you Filmstack.
Brick-and-Mortar
We are constructing filmjourn Micro to be the brick-and-mortar clubhouse of all cinema non-dependent. A literal room with an actual projector and a very real screen showing our honest work in person. Like you may have seen me write elsewhere, online is all well and good as a tool for meeting one another and introducing our styles, our vibes, and our selves to one another. It can’t end there. Once we meet in person, something new sparks. We can all pretend it doesn’t happen, but we’re all here to find that spark. To meet those people. To become a genuine face-to-face community of Film Friends. We’re here to promote one another and dig into each other’s art– as we say here– LFG.
One Last One
Filmjourn is so thrilled to sponsor genuine grassroots, punk rock productions. We believe in cinema for the sake of cinema and we will discover every and any way we can help true independent filmmakers do their thing.
I’ve been friends with Dakota Loesch for eleven or so years. We met in Chicago. I was building my own microcinema run (a running series called Friday Night Volume) and Dakota was promoting his freshly completed miniseries-come-feature Kiss Like Big Dogs. Our friendship was planted, watered, and coaxed from the soil into the sunlight by way of independent film production and experimental exhibition. It’s only right- over a decade later- we come together one more time to share a little magic. This time, I’m so excited to share with Los Angeles and our film friends here at Filmstack.
Award winning actor, writer, and producer Dakota Loesch has begun pre-pro and fundraising for his debut feature film One Last One and we’re unbelievably honored to spread word of his upcoming magnificent opus.
ONE LAST ONE
Betrayed, beaten, left for dead: wannabe gangster Chico wakes up in a weird world being hunted by violent forces. With help from a traveling band of punk rock orphans, Chico tries against-all-odds to get back home... if his home even exists anymore, and if he doesn’t get himself killed first.
Sound interesting to you? Want to know more? Here’s the amazing sizzle reel:
And a wildly informative ten-minute interview I did about the project with Dakota and his lead talent Alex Crawford right here at filmjourn Micro!
To learn even more about the project, please check out Dakota’s Seed & Spark and consider donating to get in on the ground floor of an incredibly exciting, wholly unique project.
One Last One Friends & Family Film Fest
Filmstack! If you’re interested in supporting One Last One in ways other than financial, consider coming out this Sunday October 5th! filmjourn Micro will co-host the One Last One: Friends & Family Film Fest at 1:00pm. Dakota, Alex, the entire One Last One cast & crew, and I will be at 216 W. 5th St. to share our work, spread excitement for the project, and have a movie party together.
It seems only right to include a FULL MOVIE SHOWCASE on Filmstack Day! If you want to watch some entertaining fringe indie fare– underground and below the Hollywood radar– you’ll have something very exciting (and relatively objective) to talk about later on at the Filmstack Meetup
aka
The Jon Stahl Ball
Last month’s Filmstack IRL meetup was a revelation. So much knowledge learned, so many kind people offering truly indispensable knowledge about Hollywood and the current state of… fuckin’ everything…
This month, we’re meeting up on October 5th in the evening. Why not make an entire day out of it? I insist on walking the walk since I certainly talk enough talk here on substack. If you’ve never been to one of these Meetups, Jon lets us know:
If you have a Substack that talks about all things film, TV, new media and entertainment, come to meet with fellow Filmstackers to discuss the state of the industry, the projects you’re working on, anything NonDē...
Bar tab up to $200 (plus tax/tip) provided courtesy of Richard Rushfield & The Ankler.
Rotating location each time until unless we find / love a location that works best for everyone.
